Our work for the environment

For Kredinor, environmental work is a natural part of how we run our business. We know that our impact on climate and the environment primarily comes through energy use, technology and the value chain we are part of. We therefore work systematically, long-term and data-driven to reduce emissions and use resources wisely.

Our environmental work is anchored in climate accounting for scope 1, 2 and 3 and is based on the principle of continuous improvement and transparent reporting.

Climate accounting and overall approach

Kredinor prepares climate accounts that cover:

  • Scope 1 – Our own direct emissions
  • Scope 2 – Emissions related to electricity and heating
  • Scope 3 – Emissions in the value chain

Through our climate accounting, we gain insight into where emissions actually occur and can prioritise measures where the effect is greatest. For us, this has particularly highlighted the importance of digitalisation and responsible procurement.

Scope 1 – Our own emissions

Our direct emissions are primarily linked to the use of company cars. These emissions are climate compensated, meaning that our scope 1 emissions as a whole are net zero.
In Norway, we have chosen not to renew previous leasing agreements, and across the group our existing agreements are gradually being replaced with zero-emission vehicles. This is a deliberate and long-term transition towards a low emission vehicle fleet.

Scope 2 – Electricity and heating

For all offices where Kredinor has its own electricity agreement, we use electricity with guarantees of origin, documenting that the electricity is produced from renewable energy sources.
Our head office in Oslo is located in an energy-efficient, BREEAM-certified building and is heated by district heating. District heating uses existing energy resources in society and results in a lower climate footprint than many alternative heating solutions.

Scope 3 – Emissions in the value chain

The largest share of Kredinor’s climate emissions occurs in the value chain. This particularly applies to purchased goods and services, as well as the distribution of letters and documents. We regularly follow up with significant suppliers in order to follow up on their own environmental work and emission reductions.

Climate-neutral invoice distribution

Sending communications to end customers is a significant source of emissions. Kredinor has therefore entered into an agreement for climate compensation for all physical and digital communications sent on behalf of our clients.

This makes it easier for our clients to:

  • reduce their own emissions in the value chain
  • document scope 3 emissions
  • offer more sustainable communication

All distribution via Kredinor 365 is clearly labelled to show that communication is climate compensated.

Business travel

Kredinor prioritises digital meetings over physical ones where possible. When travel is necessary, it is fully climate compensated. The goal is to reduce the number of trips over time without compromising quality, collaboration or accessibility.

Digitalisation – our most important environmental measure

Digitalisation is Kredinor’s most effective environmental measure. Because the distribution of letters is a major source of emissions, we have for several years worked purposefully to increase the share of digital communication.  Kredinor was an early adopter of digital solutions such as eFaktura and Digipost and continues this work through Kredinor 365 – our modern platform for invoice distribution and follow-up.  This work is based on:

  • a digital-first strategy
  • data-driven optimisation of channel selection
  • close collaboration with clients
  • continuous development of self-service solutions

At the same time, it is important for us that digitalisation does not create new barriers. Language, accessibility and consideration for vulnerable groups are therefore always key considerations in the development of new solutions.

IT services and energy efficiency

Kredinor also works to reduce the climate footprint from IT operations, data storage and technological solutions. This includes:

  • efficient use of cloud and data centre services
  • requirements for energy efficiency from suppliers
  • responsible lifecycle management of hardware
  • reduction and structuring of data volumes

Operation of server cloud solutions is outsourced to a professional supplier that documents energy use and emissions related to the different areas. This supplier and the data is followed up as part of our overall environmental work.

Reuse and recycling of IT equipment

Kredinor works systematically with the reuse and responsible handling of IT equipment. When equipment is taken out of use, it is collected by an external subcontractor that ensures secure handling, reuse where possible and material recycling when reuse is not relevant. This contributes to reduced resource use and a lower climate footprint.

Reuse of IT equipment reduces the need for new production, which is particularly resource- and emission-intensive. This provides a concrete and documentable contribution to lower emissions and a more circular use of resources. Kredinor receives annual environmental reports from the supplier documenting volumes, whether the IT equipment was reused or recycled, and the estimated climate effect. These reports are actively used in our environmental work and contribute to continuous improvement and transparency.

Climate-compensated workplace and IT equipment

We also climate compensate emissions related to newly purchased IT equipment used by employees, such as laptops and mobile phones. At the same time, we work actively to extend the lifetime of the equipment through reuse.

Our ambition

Our ambition is to reduce the environmental impact both from our own operations and our value chain. Environmental work at Kredinor is not about isolated measures, but about making good choices every day, across all parts of the business.
